1. Deluxe Coffeeworks

The best coffee in town, Deluxe is low-key hip and every coffee in their repertoire costs a mere R10. Find them on Church Street.

2. The Power & the Glory

New kid on the block, The Power & the Glory is already doing a roaring trade from its bohemian headquarters beneath Rafiki’s on Kloofnek. Rumoured to make the best hotdogs in town, and also stockists of Brewer’s & Union beers.

3. Fat Back Soul

Soulful, stylish groove bar at the top of Long Street. Fat Back Soul is the place to go if you want intimacy and sophistication with an injection of old school funk (think Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind & Fire).

4. Down South

Our new favourite spot for after-work cocktails (try their Spicy Tequila Tea for a fiery kick), they’re also fast developing a reputation for their Southern-inspired menu – try the prawns or ribs with a side of their perfect home fries or coleslaw. Find them at the top of Long next to Mojito.

5. Field Office

A living showcase for young design duo Pedersen + Lennard‘s creations, Field Office is also a place where freelancers, coffee-lovers and regulars indulge their love of great music, great design and Will’s famous sandwiches. Field Office is a good example of a coffice – a place where freelancers go when they’re sick of their own offices & need some stimulation.

6. Babel at Babylonstoren

Slightly further afield, Babylonstoren is home to ex Elle Deco editor Karen Roos’ wondrous new restaurant, Babel. Daily salads are picked fresh from the massive farm garden, in which every single thing is either edible or medicinal. Stroll between pumpkins, chilli’s and nasturtiums and pick your lunch yourself.

7. Bluebird Garage Food & Goods Market

Stroll through this fresh new market on a Friday afternoon or evening in search of vintage clothes, antique finds, local crafts and good food. Ceramics, wine, baked goods and other goodies are sold from a converted warehouse in Muizenberg.

8. Hemelhuijs

A stylish new bruncheon/luncheon spot located in the heart of Greenpoint’s De Waterkant, Hemelhuijs has fast become one of the city’s favourite lunchtime spots. And not just because the decor is cool. Find them at 71 Waterkant St, Greenpoint.

9. You & Me & Everyone We Know Market

Spend a Saturday morning browsing through the retro and vintage wares at this market which takes up residence in The Labia theatre courtyard every second Saturday. Sip on a Moscow mule, listen to live music and take a seat on one of the benches provided. The next market is this Saturday, the 12th of February. Their newly founded night market is also worth checking out for groovy music, projections, and a great pre-party vibe.

10. The Roundhouse

Go picnicking at this historic restaurant and sip wine in the garden with a view of Camps Bay and beyond. The Roundhouse allows you to select from a range of cheeses, breads, spreads, pickles and delicacies, which are lovingly packed into a basket for your very own picnic.
